who is teknobrat?

Thomas "Teknobrat" Stépien was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in

summer of 1972. As a kid he was always exposed to jazz, world ethnic music, salsa, samba etc.

At the age of 5 he started playing piano by ear with his fathers training. At the age of 12 in junior high school he joined is school band learning how to play trumpet. Then at the age of 15 he attended Canterbury High School Visual Arts and Music program.

A few years earlier 1983, Thomas discovered a radio show called the Groove on CKCU 93.1 fm hosted by Elorious Cain. Falling in absolute love with the different styles of disco being programmed Thomas met Elorious and received a lot of training from him. Meanwhile in 1987 Teknobrat started his new hobby "Deejaying." He started programming Hip Hop, Rap, Techno and House Music at local High School Dances and underground pubs, dance parties and clubs. This hobby of his was starting to become more of a life passion to him and in 1991 he started hosting " Planet Rave " on CKCU 93.1 fm in Ottawa Canada until summer of 1997 it was Ottawa's Underground Techno House Frequency broadcasting from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. every Saturday night during the after-hours . In 1993 Teknobrat bought his first piece of gear in a Ottawa pawn shop it was a drumatix TR-606 by Roland then not to far down the road a Yamaha DX-100 and an Roland MSQ-100 sequencer this was da beginning of a new mission for Teknobrat!!!

February 1997 the premier legit release of Teknobrat was out on Komatsu Records a small tekno label based in Hove Belgium thanks to Sven Staes. This release was an early Detroitesque Release entitled Teknobrat presents Teknobrat Trax Vol. 1.

In May of 1997 Teknobrat had his disagreements with CKCU 93.1 fm . After being 6 years on the air the Planet Rave radio show broadcasted it's last episode. In September of 1997 Teknobrat moved from CKCU 93.1 fm to CHUO 89.1 fm. La Teknosphère Radio Show was created "Ottawa's Underground Tekno House Frequency!!! " It was broadcasted every Wednesdays from 19:00 to 21:00 on CHUO 89.1 fm in Ottawa, CANADA until its final episode on January 26th 2005.

Teknobrat's latest projects include the creation and birth of his new techno record label, Reptile Musik Works & thanks to Montreal's Nivoc the succesful techno hit Breaks Of Death by Teknobrat on Ascend Recordings.
